Live NHPW Global Conflict Review: 30 March 2024

From local talent to AEW/ROH icons, these women showed why they shouldn’t be ignored

On the 23rd of March, a mate and I did a road trip to go to the New Horizons Pro Wrestling Global Conflict Event in Perth. I’ve been keen to get to more local live wrestling events, and when I saw that two AEW/ROH wrestlers were going to be there, it made the decision to attend a no-brainer. Knowing that Mercedes Martinez was on the cards for the night was huge, because she’s one of the most successful Ring of Honour champions of all time. The same goes for Diamanté, who is also an absolute beast in her own right. Getting to see both of these women compete was an exciting and awesome experience that I didn’t want to miss.

Obviously, being a local event, the venue was a lot smaller than some of the other live events I’ve been to lately, but the crowd was still super enthusiastic and rowdy. It was good to see everyone getting into the spirit but also having a laugh in parts, too. Special shoutouts to the guy who we met who gifted me a signed Gorgeous Gary poster (what a champion), and also to ‘blue-haired ref’, who had a huge cheer squad and who I respect for his composure with so many funny callouts. Everyone had a great sense of humour and professionalism.

I’ll be honest, for an event that was showcasing so much female talent on its promotional material, there were a lot more male-only matches than I expected. Don’t get me wrong, the male matches were still great, especially the 4 man match at the end of the night,- it’s just that I would have liked more of a focus on the women only.

Seeing Martinez and Diamanté demonstrate why they’ve been so successful in their careers was awesome, and the local competitors definitely gave them a run for their money. Special props to Lena Kross who I think really showed a high level of quality - I can see her going far in her career.

However, one thing that wasn’t ideal was the fact that Diamanté had to pull out due to (what I am pretty sure was) an injury. I would have liked to see her compete for glory in the final match, but I guess she needed to preserve herself for her upcoming ROH match. At least I got to see her do her stuff for one match.

Overall, it was a really fun night. The VIP seating and signed poster were also a nice touch - I definitely recommend choosing ring-side seats if ever you go for the best views possible!

I give this event 4 out of 5 stars:
