AEW Revolution Steel Cage Match 2025 Review

Warning: Graphic content.

These wrestlers left nothing in the ring except for a whole lot of blood

I don’t think there’s ever not a time I’m impressed by Will Ospreay’s agility. The man is remarkably nimble and precise in his moves, especially for his size and build. What made this particular steel cage match interesting was that he was up against a competitor that shares a much similar physique and madness that he does. This made for an incredible display of talent.

This match took place during Revolution 2025, which was broadcast live from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The event card was stacked with an incredible lineup of wrestlers: Kenny Omega vs Konosuke Takeshita; Toni Storm vs Mariah May; MJF vs Hangman Page; Swerve Strickland vs Ricochet; and Jon Moxley vs Cope. The crowd was really good, and they definitely got their money’s worth for their tickets.

The big highlight for me was the steel cage match in which Ospreay went head-to-head against friend-turned-rival Kyle Fletcher. I’ve met Fletcher, and he’s a really lovely guy, but in this match, that side definitely didn’t come out. He was out for Ospreay’s blood, and he definitely got it. And I mean that literally.

Both wrestlers are tenacious, ruthless, and tough, which they certainly had to be for this marathon match. Each one kept delivering hit after hit to the other, with the level of violence increasing as time within the steel cage went on. No pain was spared, with weapons used including a screwdriver, a barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat, a chair, thumbtacks, and pretty much whatever else they could find. Even the ring itself and the cage walls were used to inflict pain upon one another. It was absolutely savage. The sheer amount of blood shed during this match was mindblowing; both wrestlers also seemed to turn vampire because both enjoyed licking each other’s spilled blood off of things. They were madmen. Seeing the blood literally drip from Ospreay’s head was crazy. The fact that they both powered through the match with their clothes soaked red was an insane show of strength.

Some of my favourite moments included when Ospreay delivered a Spanish Fly on Fletcher from the top of the cage, when the barbed-wire bat was used on Fletcher, and Ospreay slamming Fletcher into the thumbtacks with the Styles Clash. Such a cool range of savage moves all in one match. Don’t get me wrong, Ospreay didn’t have an easy match at all, but his level of technical ability throughout the painful moments was stellar.

I did especially enjoy the storytelling, especially when Fletcher pulled out the United Empire armband, which referenced back to when the two were allies in NJPW. Long-time fans would have loved that just as much as I did. I would love to see more of that long-term storytelling featured moving forward.

This match was a reminder of why AEW still has an edge to it that WWE might not yet be ready to venture into yet. One thing we know for sure, though: fans have a thirst for blood.

I give this match 5 out of 5 stars:
