SPECIAL EDITION: Live AEW Grand Slam 2025 Review

AEW

How could I not attend AEW’s first show on Aussie turf?

I’ve been waiting for this show for the longest time, and was stoked to fly to Brisbane to witness history unfolding. It absolutely blew me away. Funnily enough, I’ve been to a Grand Slam in New York City, and that was incredible, but this took things to a whole other level. Let me tell you all about it!

First things first, I managed to score backstage access to the event to see all of the behind-the-scenes action on the day of the show. Boy, was it cool. I got to see where Tony Khan would be watching the show, I got to see the ring close-up (and underneath it), I got to see so many props (tables, trash cans, kendo sticks) that would then be used later in the night, I got to shoot my very own promo, and I got to meet and greet two awesome wrestlers (Powerhouse Hobbs and Kyle Fletcher). I mean, that was a heck of a start to what was an incredible event day.

Then, it was time for the event itself. This was epic. We had seats close to where the wrestlers were entering, and it was great to be so close to the energy as they walked towards the ring. You could definitely tell who was favoured and who wasn’t. My favourite entrance was Cope, especially because I have such a long history watching him. I have to do a super special mention for the crowd that joined me at the event. They were completely committed to making the most of this special occasion, and brought incredible energy throughout the entire show. Genuinely, I wish every crowd was this pumped for an event.

The top highlights of the show for me include Cope getting sent to the ring, seeing Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay in the flesh and them wrestling against Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher, seeing Moxley up close and personal (like, a few feet from me), and seeing a bunch of weapons used in the Moxley match.

I cannot wait to see more AEW shows in Australia, because it’s clear there is a huge demand for them and a very dedicated fan base. They just need to make sure they fix the transportation issues when fans leave the event, which is a story for another time.

If you’re an Australian, I would definitely recommend attending an AEW event the next time one comes around. It’s an absolute must for wrestling fans who want to see the action up close. Especially if you’re a long time fan of wrestling like myself, and want to see some of your childhood heroes do their thing in person. I can’t wait for the next event!

I give this event 5 out of 5 stars:
